Compost & bloom | Being in business

13 Nov 2024 | Being in business

Clarity can come as a flash from a clear sky, or it can be nudged into being, slowly, patiently. I think I was expecting the flash, but now I see it’s taken over a year to move from trying to think my way into clarity to actually feeling it — sensing it in a clear, visceral way.

Building a foundation that’s sustainable is what I’ve been seeking all along, even before I knew it. Trusting my own knowledge, skills, experience, and wisdom was what I needed, no matter how different or unconventional I might seem to others.

Being in my business, I lean deeply into the uniqueness of the women I journey with, helping them uncover their voices and their vision, and above all, reconnect with the love they have for what they do. Sometimes this love gets buried under all the why’s and what’s of running a business. Recognising that I fully forgot to give myself the same grace was eye-opening.

The garden analogy has helped me see it all so much more clearly. It’s fascinating how I’ve been thinking that being in business should be something so different from how I live and what I love in life. And I’m probably not alone.

Just like in life, consistent nourishment is essential in business too. In the same way we care for a garden — whether a metaphorical one or a real one — we tend to what each part needs in the moment. There’s no way to do it all, all the time.

Have you felt the difference between thinking your way through something and feeling it? What brought you to clarity?

Heart of Service

Heart of Service is course created by Lindsay Mack dedicated to empowering us with the tools, skills, and resources to begin to deepen our trust in ourself and our own rhythms around serving and creating — even in times of contraction, uncertainty, and doubt.

The course is not open for enrollment at this moment (november 2024) I would subscribe to Lindsey’s newsletter to stay in the loop.

This series was initially posted on Instagram when I was literally in the midst of not knowing what to do or where to go with my business.

Advice on being in business is mainly focused on the whats and the whys, and it’s not surprising that we lose sight of the love we have for what we do.

To keep going isn’t always the answer. Pausing, or fully stopping, is scary, but I believe it’s necessary to be able to reassess our priorities and rediscover our passion.

Compost to nourish our soil, our soul. Ongoing nourishment is what makes us bloom.
